Ilgar Yusif oghlu Abilhasanov was born on 19 August 1967 in Baku.
After completing his military service, he was admitted to the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy (present-day UNEC).
Wishing to become a serviceman like his father and brother, Ilgar studied full-time for three years before transferring to the evening division and beginning work in the police service. While in his fifth year, he served as a sergeant at the Yasamal District Police Department.
On the night of 19-20 January 1990, when Soviet troops entered Baku, Ilgar was on duty, and his shift was about to end. He was wounded around midnight and later passed away in the hospital.
The secondary school No. 42 in Baku’s Nasimi district, where he once studied, now bears his name.
